How to become a Sephora holiday shopping master

Hi my Angels.

I wanted to write this article for the simple reason that I have experienced so many uncomfortable situations in the past when it comes to shopping at Sephora. It can be exhausting on a regular day, but over the holidays, let’s just say it’s crowded.

Here are a few tips and tricks I’ve found that work the best shopping this holiday season.

Look out for sales

Sephora has sales all year around but particularly around the holiday season there are a lot more deals on the gifts you love. So why not take advantage of them?

The first way to get the bang for your buck is through value and gift sets. Many companies that sell their products through Sephora put together value sets of their new product lines and best sellers. Many times you can find companies such as Laneige that offer a range of face masks, lip masks and face creams in a value set for a specially discounted cost.

The only thing I’d like to warn you about value sets is that the sale isn’t always worth it. Some value sets include mini versions of the items you’re looking for. When you compare the cost and amount of the product you get (ml/oz) of the full size item and the mini, you’ll find you’ll get a bigger bang for your buck by buying the regular sized item. However, if you’re looking to try a new line’s products that you haven’t tried before or it’s for a gift for someone else, then this is the way to go!

Get the VIB discount

In case you don’t know what a VIB member is, here’s a bit of info.

As a VIB member, you collect points on every dollar you’ve purchased at Sephora over the span of a year’s time. These points can be redeemed for trial sizes of products, custom makeovers and sometimes can be redeemed for cash value. It’s worth signing up if you’re an avid Sephora shopper. Sephora also has semi-annual VIB discount sale where VIB subscribers are entitled to 20% off their purchases for a period of a few days. These VIB deals can also come in handy shopping online as your points can be redeemed for extra samples that may not be available in stores.

Know what you’re going in for

This is one thing that I DREAD about going into Sephora over the holiday season. Many customers go into Sephora unknowing what they’re looking for and attempt to ask for help from one of the handful Sephora employees. Since most of the employees are already busy helping other customers, many people end up purchasing items without knowing whether the product would help their skin type, or even foundations that don’t match their skin tone.

Before going in, go to or on the Sephora App and pick out the items you’re interested in. Once you have the list of things you’re looking for then you can go in, pick out the items you need and be out in under 20 minutes. If you still need help on picking an item that would suit your skin type, find yourself an employee that’s free and you’ll be able to tell them exactly which item you’re looking for. This helps as Sephora employees may try to sell you on another brand’s items insisting they’re better. This isn’t necessarily the case and can be a huge waste of time. TL;DR > Go on the App, read the reviews, screenshot your items. Go into Sephora, get your items and go home happy.

Your products not in stock!

Thankfully this isn’t a waste of your time. If you came into Sephora looking for a certain product and found that it’s been out of stock in store, go to the front cash. The cashier will be able to find the product you’re searching for in the main warehouse and you can pay for your order in store and the product ships to your doorstep within 3 days! This has been a huge help for products that are currently sold out in store and online. Their main warehouse always has extra stock and you don’t pay shipping!

Pay with Debit or Credit

I think I can speak for all of us when I say the lines are the worst part of shopping at Sephora.

I went once over the VIB sale and the line was seriously outside the store. Like snaked all throughout the store and people were legit standing outside the store with their items while a security guard watches that you don’t run off with your Huda palette. Gross.

Sephora employees have mobile payment machines where they scan your items, bag them and you’re able to pay through your card for your items by-passing the line of customers paying cash. Also, don’t worry, you’re still able to redeem your VIB points on special items if you wish.

Return policy

Sephora’s return policy is very good in the sense that you can try a product over a few weeks and still return it if you find the product didn’t work for you. This is ideal for those with allergies or sensitivities to products as skin and beauty care can be expensive! Bring your items back and get a full refund on your purchase. Also keep in mind that if you are purchasing a gift for someone else, ask for a gift receipt so that the receiver doesn’t get stuck with an item they may already have or not enjoy.
